UPS and Inverter
Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) is equipment which instantly backs up power supply to an electric load in case of main power supply failure. UPS are used for devices such as computer, servers, workstations which perform critical task and cannot tolerate delays in power supply restoration.
Inverter is equipmentwhich converts AC supply to DC and stores in the battery. When power supply goes off, that DC power is converted back to AC and is transmitted to the electric loads.Inverters are preferred for general electric loads whose working doesn’t get affected by delays in power supply
In general parlance however, both the terms are used interchangeably.
